Equipment Services

Excavator & Mini Skid Steer Work, Operated with Care

Living Earth provides skilled equipment operation for grading, trenching, land clearing, boulder and rip-rap placement, utility pole setting, and site preparation across McKinleyville, Trinidad, Arcata, Eureka, and Humboldt County.

Equipment is a tool in service of the property—not an end in itself. The same operator who shapes your grade understands the drainage, planting, and construction that follow, so the groundwork is done right for what comes next.

Machines & Attachments

A Mini Skid Steer That Does the Work of Many Machines

The mini skid steer is compact enough for tight residential access—side yards, fenced backyards, and established landscapes—yet carries a full set of attachments:

Augers up to 24 inches

Fence posts, deck footings, sign posts, and planting holes for large specimens.

4-foot rototiller

Soil preparation for new lawns, planting beds, and renovation areas.

3-foot trencher

Drainage, irrigation, lighting, and utility trenches with clean, consistent depth.

4-foot land plane

Finish grading for gravel driveways, pads, and soil surfaces.

Hydraulic breaker

Breaking concrete slabs, footings, and rock during demolition and renovation.

Excavators Sized to the Job

For larger digging, Living Earth rents excavators of any size along with their attachments, matched to the project rather than forcing the project to fit one machine. On full-day jobs, this keeps costs competitive with hiring someone who owns a single machine—while giving your project exactly the right equipment and an operator who runs it as part of a complete site plan.

What the Equipment Does

Grading & Site Preparation

Rough and finish grading, pad preparation, gravel work, grade transitions for patios and driveways, and site shaping that sets drainage up correctly from the start. A 4-foot land plane produces clean, even finishes on soil and gravel surfaces.

Trenching

Trenching up to 3 feet deep for drainage lines, downspout piping, irrigation, low-voltage lighting, and utility runs—placed carefully around existing roots, hardscape, and structures.

Fence Posts & Augering

Post holes augered with bits up to 24 inches wide for fences, gates, decks, arbors, signs, and footings—straight, to depth, and at production pace so carpentry can follow immediately.

Land Clearing & Vegetation Removal

Clearing brush, small trees, stumps, and overgrowth; grubbing out old planting beds; and stripping sites for renovation—scaled to the property, from backyard cleanups to larger rural parcels.

Boulder & Rip-Rap Placement

Setting landscape boulders, building rip-rap slope protection, and placing stone for retaining, water features, and erosion control. Machine placement puts heavy stone exactly where hand work cannot.

Utility Pole Placement

Setting utility and service poles in wooded and difficult terrain, including sites with no road access for a line truck—planned around trees, roots, and overhead lines.

Concrete Breaking & Small Demolition

A hydraulic breaker attachment handles old slabs, footings, and failed concrete as part of renovation and replacement work, along with small equipment-assisted demolition.

Pond & Drainage Excavation

Excavating ponds, pondless reservoirs, dry wells, swales, and drainage corrections—including work inside established landscapes where access and finish quality both matter.

Skilled Operation in Tight and Sensitive Spaces

Much of Humboldt County's equipment work happens in places that are hard to reach: fenced backyards, wooded parcels, steep slopes, and finished landscapes that need protection while heavy work happens nearby. Decades of operating experience on local properties means knowing how to get a machine in, do the work cleanly, and leave the rest of the property intact.

Because Living Earth also designs and builds landscapes, ponds, drainage, and carpentry, equipment work is planned as part of the whole project—grades that drain correctly, trenches that land where pipes and plants need them, and boulder placement that looks natural when the work is done.
